The Savage reminds me of my 1973 MG Midget. I don't think it had synchro's in first gear. Although it does not grind often, I think you sure do get a good thump and abuse if you down shift into first while moving.
Now If you say you down shift into first and keep the clutch in and stop, then I could agree if you.
Now we get into the question of whether or not you sit at a light in First or Neutral.
Now I'm going to have to pay even more attention to what I'm doing. I may be doing what you say without even relizing it.
